Mechanisms of Healing in Coiled Intracranial Aneurysms: A Review of the Literature.
Recanalization of intracranial aneurysms following endovascular coiling remains a frustratingly common occurrence. An understanding of the molecular and histopathologic mechanisms of aneurysm healing following coil embolization is essential to improving aneurysm occlusion rates. Histopathologic studies in coiled human and experimental aneurysms suggest that during the first month postcoiling, t...
متن کاملA CASE OF GIANT INTRACRANIAL ANEURYSM AND SYST EMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: AN INCIDENTAL OR AN ACCIDENTAL FINDING?
A twelve year old girl, an established case of systemic lupus erythematosus, was referred to us suffering from diplopia and nasal speech for a period of 3 months. Neurological examination was conducted which revealed a right-sided sixth nerve palsy and a pulsatile nasopharyngeal mass. Neurodiagnostic imaging studies confirmed a giant intracavernous internal carotid aneurysm. The malady of t...
متن کاملPolyglycolide/polylactide-coated platinum coils for patients with ruptured and unruptured cerebral aneurysms: a single-center experience.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Recanalization of cerebral aneurysm is a limitation of bare platinum coils (BPCs). In a swine aneurysm model, polyglycolide/polylactide (a polymer)-coated platinum coils (Matrix) accelerated clot fibrosis and reduced recanalization rate and aneurysmal volume. We aimed to evaluate the safety of Matrix coils in patients with intracranial aneurysm. METHODS This is a single...
متن کاملSingle-center experience of surgical and endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE ISAT provided valuable data on patient outcome after endovascular coiling and surgical clipping of ruptured aneurysms. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively review the ≥1-year outcome (in terms of survival, independence, and rebleeding) of patients who were treated in a routine clinical setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS Records of patients presenting with an SAH...
متن کاملDistribution of the etiological factors and symptoms of true aneurysms of subclavian and axillary arteries
Results Chief complaint was ischemic symptoms in 2 (25%) patients, non-disturbing mass in 3 (38%), feeling of compression in 2 (25%) and bleeding in 1 (12%) patient. Etiological factors include atherosclerosis in 5 patients (62%), a probable connective tissue disorder in 1 patient (13%) and idiopathic in 2 patients (25%). In these last 2 patients no atherosclerotic changes were prominent histop...
